Exploring Prague Old Town Hall with the Welcome Centre

On Sunday, April 28th, a group of CZU researchers embarked on a guided exploration of one of Prague's most iconic landmarks—the Old Town Hall with its famed Astronomical Clock. Led by the knowledgeable guide, Alena Drebitková Malá from the Department of Languages, participants delved into centuries of history encapsulated within the walls of this architectural marvel.

The tour commenced early in the morning in order to catch the early bird entrance tickets that are offered with a delightful 50% discount, making the experience accessible to all. The participants were treated to a comprehensive exploration of the Old Town Hall's historical halls, underground passages, and culminating with a breathtaking view from the Old Town Hall Tower.

By stepping into the Old Town Hall, participants found themselves immersed in the rich tapestry of Prague's past. The Gothic tower, adorned with intricate carvings and crowned by the renowned Astronomical Clock, stood as a testament to the city's enduring heritage. Every hour, between 9 AM and 11 PM, the clock's twelve apostles emerge, captivating onlookers with their timeless procession.

As the tour progressed, attendees were treated to a glimpse into the heart of medieval Prague. From the solemnity of the bay chapel to the labyrinthine underground passages, each corner of the Old Town Hall revealed a new chapter in the city's storied history. The destruction wrought upon the Gothic Revival eastern wing during the Prague Uprising of 1945 served as a poignant reminder of the city's resilience in the face of adversity.

The climax of the tour awaited atop the Old Town Hall Tower, where participants were rewarded with a panoramic vista of Prague's city center.

As the tour drew to a close, participants departed with a newfound appreciation for the timeless allure of the Prague Old Town Hall, eager to share their experiences with fellow researchers and history enthusiasts alike.
